Snowshoe-hiking on Lunzberg

11 January 2026

I spent the first days of the new year in Lunz and the amount of new snow prompted me to use my snowshoes (which tend to get used very little) to hike up Lunzberg.

When I arrived at 1st January in the afternoon in Lunz, I did a short walk up the mountain without snowshoes, since there was not too much snow in the valley, and usually people walking up before me have already created a path that can be followed. This time however, the path through the snow came soon to an end. But there was not much daylight left anyway and I managed to take some nice photos of the winter landscape in the setting sun.

View from Lunzberg over the town in direction of Scheiblingstein, with a nice view of the Ötscher in the background to the left.
The winter landscape offered a good excuse to make some panorama photos.
I walk down looking at the red and orange sunset in the west, following the path others and I made in the snow.
Another view of the sunset over the snowy winter woods and mountains.

The next day it snowed again, and the day after I went up Lunzberg again, this time with my snowshoes. This time I managed to hike up to the top and enjoy the view from higher up too.

View from near the top of Lunzberg towards the mountains in the west.
Attempt of a panoramic photo from the same position.
